Our History

Bookie's opened as The Bookie's Paperbacks and More in 1989, and it has been providing books to the south side of Chicago for over 28 years. When a long-time employee took it over in 2006, it became brighter and more inviting. Its labyrinthine shelves stocked books from every genre

Every evolution of the store has seen it become brighter and more modern.

In 2015, former high school English teacher, Keith Lewis, took over the store, and the evolution continued.

On July 1, 2017, Bookie's moved into a new double storefront, almost tripling its square footage, right around the corner from its previous location.

Modern, bright, spacious, and easy-to-navigate, the new Bookie's boasts full ADA-compliance.

Now, Bookie's is expanding once again. At 3:30 P.M. on September 21st, the last day of Summer, the brand-new second location of Bookie's will cut the ribbon and be open for business! The new location is in the middle of beautiful downtown Homewood, IL.
